Lisa finding creative ways to make a fulfilling life
Lisa, a client of SCI Sask and a Peer Mentor, shares their thoughts on SCI Sask:
"Donating to SCI SK goes a long way because many of the members who receive help and support from the programs eventually become the volunteers who give back to the programs and the community. We're like a quiet network of lived experience and information on overcoming challenges, and finding creative ways to make a fulfilling life.
There is a lot to figure out after sustaining a spinal cord injury and SCI SK has resources for the whole journey. By far the most valuable resource for me has been the peer support. Connecting with other wheelchair users who have rich, and fulfilling lives to learn from, problem solve with, share information, and laugh and build friendships has been priceless.
From the that first visit in the hospital to help with my resume when I graduated high school and the "gap year" to navigating campus, parenting and aging and navigating through health care and insurance systems - I have made connections through SCI SK that last a lifetime and have truly helped avoid or lessen the isolation that is often a part of life with a disability."
