Accessibility Legislation for Saskatchewan – Have Your Say
Shared on behalf of Daryl Stubel, Government of Saskatchewan, Executive Director Office of Disability Issues
One of the recommendations in Saskatchewan’s Disability Strategy was to explore accessibility legislation for Saskatchewan. The first phase of public engagement on accessibility legislation is now live!
Accessibility legislation is an important step towards removing barriers that prevent people with disabilities from participating fully in our communities. The legislation will cover a wide range of accessibility areas, including the design of public spaces, information and communications, service animals, public sector employment, public sector procurement and public transportation.
Have your say and help us build the foundation for accessibility legislation! While we can’t offer in-person engagement opportunities right now due to COVID-19, we are asking for feedback online, by phone, by e-mail or through the mail. You can take a survey, register for an online discussion forum, or fill in the discussion guide and send it in.
We have developed the discussion guide to help steer you through the first phase of engagement. This guide will be used during the online discussion forums, but you can also fill it out on your own and send it to us.
The discussion guide is also available in alternative formats. Online, you have access to a large print version, a plain language version and a text only version. A version with ASL is coming soon. You can also request other alternate formats by e-mailing accessiblesk@gov.sk.ca or by calling 1-877-915-7468.
To learn more about all the engagement opportunities and to access all available information and resources, please visit accessiblesk.saskatchewan.ca.
Developing legislation is a lengthy process, and we fully support “Nothing About Us Without Us” meaning you will have numerous opportunities to help shape Saskatchewan’s Accessibility Legislation.
I am excited to collaborate with all our stakeholders and the community to create legislation that will improve the lives of those with disabilities in Saskatchewan. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
